Attorney Yolanda Chavez Parker-Smith has been a public servant for more than two decades. Originally, hailing from Jacksonville, Florida she earned an Associates's Degree, Business Administration Bachelor of Science Degree and Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida. She is an active member of both The Florida Bar and the Georgia Bar. After marrying her high school sweetheart in 1999, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she was the only African American woman district attorney in the Suffolk County District Courts. After the birth of her daughter Erika, the family relocated to Georgia and specifically chose Dekalb County as their home. She has lived in Dekalb County Georgia for more than seventeen years. After the birth of her son, Parker she served as an Assistant District Attorney in Fulton County Juvenile Court. After years of serving the State, she discovered that her purpose and passion was better suited for defense work. As defense counsel, she quickly rose to prominence where she was the most requested and sought-after defense counsel in the building for both juveniles and adults. She’s literally handled, helped and healed thousands of individuals and families.
In 2010, she was tapped by the Director of the Atlanta Judicial Circuit Office of the Public Defender’s Office, Vernon Pitts, Jr. to establish, lead and direct The Parent Attorney Division, the first of its kind in the State of Georgia and only the second in the nation. As the Senior Attorney of the division, she was responsible for over a dozen individuals including eleven attorneys, support, investigators and interns. While in this capacity, Yolanda has aided/assisted thousands of individuals and families. She was also involved in Accountability Courts for both adults and juveniles.
Yolanda continues to be actively involved in many civic, professional and religious organizations in Dekalb County including the Florida Bar, State Bar of Georgia, Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Georgia Association of Women Lawyers, Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys, Gate City Bar Association, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (Silver Star), Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated (Lead Teen Sponsor), University of Florida Alumni Association, University of Florida Association of Black Alumni, Columbia Drive UMC Youth Ministry Director, Principal’s Advisory Council (Dunwoody High School).
Yolanda is married to her devoted husband Eric and they are the proud parents, Erika, 18 a freshman at Harvard University and Parker, 16, a junior at Dunwoody High School. They are extremely active members of Columbia Drive United Methodist Church, “The Drive” located in Decatur, Georgia.
